Your Path to Better Health

UAB HealthSmart is the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s innovative health education and wellness facility that empowers people throughout Greater Birmingham to take charge of their health. An initiative of the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine, UAB HealthSmart works to help everyone living and working in Birmingham to find simple, achievable ways to improve their health.

It is estimated that 80 percent of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes and 40 percent of cancers in the U.S. could be prevented if Americans were to stop smoking, eat healthy, and get in shape. But often, positive lifestyle changes are easier said than done. This is true in Alabama, where 31.6 percent of people are considered obese and 22 percent of adults smoke.

That's where UAB HealthSmart comes in. We're here to help you understand what your body needs to stay healthy and how smart lifestyle changes can help lower your risk for diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and stroke.  We begin with a 15-minute personalized health profile to reveal your health risks. Then we connect you with HealthSmart nutrition services that can help you lose weight, get fit, and improve your health.

Our mission is better health for all, so take that first step to a healthier tomorrow!
