Sabine Huke, PhDAssociate Professor

Dr. Sabine Huke joined UAB in December 2015 as an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. She received both her MS degree in Microbiology (1996) and her PhD in Biochemistry (2000) from Westfaelische-Wilhelms-Universitaet in Muenster, Germany. Dr. Huke was hired on as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Cardiology at The University of Cincinnati (2000 – 2001) and then as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2001 – 2002) and then as a Senior Research Associate (2002 – 2004) in the Department of Physiology & Cell Biology at The Ohio State University. By 2004, she joined Loyola University of Chicago Department of Physiology as a Research Associate until 2008 when Dr. Huke joined Vanderbilt University as a Research Assistant Professor until 2015. In May 2015, her title changed while at Vanderbilt University from Research Assistant Professor to Assistant Professor within the same division. She joined UAB later on that year. Dr. Huke received several awards and honors including a Travel-Award (to Baltimore and Cincinnati) from the “Herz-Zentrum”, Münster, Germany (1998), the Junior Abstract Award at the AHA Scientific Sessions in Los Angeles, CA (2001), and the Poster Award, Gordon Conference “Cardiac Regulatory Mechanisms” (2010). She was a member of the Microcirculatory Society (MCS) Member (2016 – 2018), the American Physiological Society (APS), Cardiovascular Section Member (2012 – 2018), the Biophysical Society (BPS) Member (2005-2012), and the Basic Science Council Member, American Heart Association (AHA), (2002 – 2018).

In recognition of Dr. Huke’s life and career, we established the Sabine Huke, PhD, Endowed Fund for Cardiovascular Research at UAB. This fund will support research and discovery in cardiovascular science in honor of Dr. Huke. Contributions in memory of Dr. Huke may be made to this fund by mail to:
