Howard Residency Fair Training LeadersThe annual Howard University College of Medicine Residency Fair is a unique experience that allows medical students to speak with dozens of representatives in one day. Last month, over 80 specialty programs gathered to share their residency and research opportunities with potential applicants. UAB joined academic medical centers from across the country, including Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Mayo Clinic, to connect with future physicians and health care industry leaders.

“We think that in order to recruit competitive URiM’s into our residency programs, we must prioritize going where they are,” said Tera Howard, M.D., assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology who is helping lead diversity recruitment efforts in graduate medical education. “This is why GME attended the Howard residency fair and why we plan to attend residency fairs at the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) and Student National Medical Association (SNMA) national meetings this spring.”

Student attendees included individuals from Howard University College of Medicine and other medical schools in the Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and Philadelphia regions.
