Healthcare Disparities Academy (HDA)

The ACGME Common Program Requirements direct programs to provide training related to healthcare disparities as part of their educational program around quality improvement, as disparities exist in the healthcare that is provided to individuals across different populations. We have been extending our efforts a step further in working with Dr. Mona Fouad, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity & Inclusion, and the ODI staff to develop a Healthcare Disparities Academy (HDA) to provide additional training in cultural competency for our residents and fellows so that they will be better able to provide care that begins to address these disparities in healthcare. The HDA is a dynamic, half-day interactive session that provides education and discussion around the definition of health disparities, the social determinants of health, and the role of place in health.
