The core mission of the Division of General Internal Medicine is to provide exceptional educational opportunities for medical students, internal medicine residents, and fellows in quality and safety.
Clinician educators have significant leadership roles in medical education (undergraduate and graduate). Clinicians deliver high-quality personalized medicine in the Whitaker Clinic and provide care of hospitalized patients at University Hospital and the Birmingham VAMC (teaching and non-teaching services).
Clinician Investigators have appointments in the UAB Informatics Institute, UAB Hugh Kaul Precision Medicine Institute, or the Center for Population Health Sciences in the Division of Preventive Medicine. Clinician administrators also have leadership roles in the Department of Medicine and UAB Medicine.
Among the ranks, 20 have served as Chief Medical Resident, one as Medicine-Pediatrics Chief Resident, and 14 have advanced training in academic general internal medicine, addiction medicine, ethics, medical education, or quality and safety.
