Explore UAB

Chief Medical Residents 2016-2017What to say from the chiefs? I think this year is special for most, and spending it with three of my closest friends has made it all the better. We have enjoyed the honor of attending on wards with our incredible residents, learning  each day from them as well as the other fantastic faculty that we have in our program. We attended the fifth annual Legacy Dinner at the Cobbs’ house, graded more intern H&P’s than we care to count, and tried our darndest each Wednesday morning to stump Dr. Rodriguez and the rest of the Tinsley attendings with our best cases. It has been a privilege.

As with every year, we had challenges and changes along the way, with efforts to improve our primary care education, changes to our ICU rotations, and ongoing efforts to promote resident wellness. What hasn’t changed is what I think has always made UAB internal medicine great: excellent clinical education, supportive leadership, a focus on patient care, and a continually growing legacy of caring and capable physicians. I’m proud to be in that number.

Will Benton will be joining as faculty at the LSU Internal Medicine Residency in Baton Rouge, near his hometown. He would like everyone to know that he is currently leading Nicholas in their tennis singles head-to-head.

Stephen Clarkson, Nicholas Hoppmann, and Jori May will all be staying at UAB for fellowship in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Hematology/Oncology, respectively.
