Areas of Interest
oncogenic kinase signaling, brain tumors, glioblastoma, gliomas

Dr. Gao Guo is an assistant professor in the UAB Department of Neurosurgery. His research focuses on elucidating the role of receptor tyrosine kinase in the invasion and survival of glioblastoma (GBM). He is also interested in exploring the interplay between kinase signaling and extracellular matrix remodeling in GBM. He uses advanced molecular techniques to characterize the signaling pathways in both preclinical mouse models and human glioma tissue. He is committed to applying his research findings to develop novel therapeutic strategies that may be useful in the treatment for brain tumors. Dr. Guo earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the Free University of Berlin, Berlin, Germany. After completing his first postdoctoral training at UCLA School of Dentistry, he joined the Department of Neurology at UTSW for his second postdoctoral training, and subsequently was an assistant professor (research-track) within the same department.
