The UAB School of Medicine Pain Research Program is based in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. Member departments include Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine; Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology; Oral Surgery; Medicine; Neurobiology, Neurology; Neurosurgery; Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation; Psychiatry & Behavioral Neurobiology; Psychology; Surgery; Urology.
Our mission is to create an exceptional environment for pain research at UAB to facilitate success in obtaining extramural pain research funding, making breakthrough discoveries in pain research, and translating research findings into effective treatments of intractable pain in patients.
Strategic Goals of the Pain Program include:
- Expand the NIH-funded pain research portfolio.
- Establish an educational platform to integrate pain biology theory, research, and practice.
- Facilitate industry-funded clinical trials and translational research.
- Engage in community outreach to increase visibility of the Program and promote philanthropy.
