Dr. Ahmed M. Kamel Abdel Aal is a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. He is board certified in Radiology. He received fellowship training in Vascular and Interventional Radiology as well as Neuroradiology at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Kamel holds Masters degree and PhD degree in Radiology. Dr. Kamel practiced Interventional Radiology for 11 years and has been involved in residents and fellows' education since 1999. He was awarded the "Top ten faculty award for excellence in resident education" four times, the "Certificate of Merit Award" from the Radiological Society of North America" twice, the "Certificate of Outstanding performance in Veterans Affairs Radiology Service" and the "Louisville Slugger Award for best Board reviewer". Dr. Kamel enjoys teaching and interacting with residents and fellows. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters, and shares with abstracts, educational exhibits and oral scientific presentations in various national and international conferences. He has clinical expertise in oncologic and spine interventions, and has interest in DVT management and varicoceles embolization.
Dr. Rachel F. Oser is a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. She is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and received her certification of added qualification (CAQ) in Vascular and Interventional Radiology in 1997 and was recertified in 2007. She has over 15 years of experience training residents and fellows. She is the Program Director of the Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program. She is a member of numerous UAB Hospital and Departmental Committees. Her interests are creating and implementing high educational standards for the fellowship program. She is an active member of the Association of Program Directors of Radiology and the Association of Program Directors of Interventional Radiology. She assisted in initiating the Uterine Artery Embolization Program here at UAB and has clinical expertise in the treatment of women's health issues. Her research interests are biliary procedures and women's health.
Dr. Souheil Saddekni is a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist (VIR) and a professor of Radiology and Medicine. After completing his training with board certification in Diagnostic Radiology he received two years of subspecialty fellowship training in cardiovascular/Interventional Radiology, followed by one year fellowship training in abdominal and Interventional Radiology. He has over 29 years of experience teaching and lecturing in local, National and international conferences. He is a Fellow (elect) Council of the Society of Interventional Radiology (FSIR) and a Fellow (elect) of the Council on Cardiovascular Radiology, American Heart Association (FAHA). In 1994, he received CAQ in VIR where he also served as an examiner. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters on interventional radiology. He has clinical expertise in vascular angioplasty/stenting, arterial and venous embolization, Dialysis access management, liver and biliary interventions including (TIPS) for the treatment of portal hypertension, chemoembolization for the treatment of liver tumors, and percutaneous treatment of biliary obstruction. He has a strong belief in the value of a multidisciplinary approach for the management of patients.
Dr. Edgar S. Underwood is a Vascular and Interventional Radiologist. He is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Emergency Medicine. He has over 16 years of experience teaching residents. He was a staff radiologist at Baptist Medical Center-Princeton Hospital for 12 years before coming to UAB in 2006. During this time, he was recognized as outstanding teacher for two years. Dr. Edgar Underwood performed the first Vertebroplasty in the state of Alabama and also was the first radiologist to do Kyphoplasty in Alabama. He enjoys participating in medical missions and humanitarian efforts and recently went to on a Disaster Relief Trip to Haiti after the earthquake occurred. He has been recognized by Birmingham's Top Doctors for the last two years. His research interests include cryoablation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for patients with kidney, lung and bone tumors and angioplasty to treat Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency in patients with Multiple Sclerosis. He is also active in all spine interventions and neuroangiography. Dr. Underwood is also affiliated with the Trinity Medical System.
