Dr. Valencia is a Board Certified Diagnostic Radiologist and Neuroradiologist, with Certificate of added Qualification (CAQ) in Neuroradiology issued by the American Board of Radiology. She finished Medical School at the Universidad CES, located in Medellin, Colombia. This was followed by her Diagnostic Radiology residency at Universidad de Antioquia/Hospital Universitario San Vicente de Paul also in Medellin, Colombia where she was the Chief Resident; additionally during her residency she was selected as a Clinical Research Scholar at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill and successfully completed her Diagnostic Neuroradiology Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW)/Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to joining the faculty in the Neuroradiology section of the department of radiology at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB), Dr. Valencia worked as a Neuroradiology Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and the South Texas Veteran’s Health Care System, also in San Antonio for 8 years. Subsequently she spent 2.5 years in Private Practice as a full time neuroradiologist and worked as an expert consultant for a professional services firm specializing in biomechanical analysis and accident reconstruction in San Antonio, Texas. Her areas of special interest include Craniocervical Trauma, Epilepsy and Stroke Imaging. She has a laudable record of service at both the institutional and societal levels, with multiple scientific and educational presentations and exhibits, several of which have been recognized with awards. She served as reviewer of different scientific journals, she was part of the primary and comprehensive UTHSCSA stroke committees related to the management of stroke patients, and also she was the radiology presenter for their epilepsy board, as well as the Neuroradiology schedule coordinator, counselor and mentor to high school and medical students with an interest in Radiology. Aparna Singhal, M.D., completed her medical school training from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, India where she received several awards. She then joined the UCLA Department of Radiology as a post-doctoral research scholar where she worked in the fields of MR Spectroscopy and MR Angiography. After completing her radiology residency training at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT, where she served as chief resident for two years, she came to UAB for her neuroradiology fellowship training. Since subsequently joining as faculty in the neuroradiology section, Dr. Singhal has excelled in various leadership roles as the Neuroradiology Fellowship Program Director from 2016-2019 and the Neuroradiology Section Chief from 2019-2023. Dr. Singhal is certified by the American Board of Radiology with also a certification of added qualification in Neuroradiology. She is actively involved in various departmental and national society committees and is a clinical educator with several publications, exhibits and presentations to her credit. Her areas of interest are head and neck imaging and quality improvement. She has led the brain curriculum subcommittee for the ASNR fellowship curriculum for several years. She is also a passionate advocate for women in medicine and is involved in many related national organization activities. She was recently awarded the Dr. Katherine A.
