Janis P. O’Malley, M.D., FACR has a long record of interest and service in the area of physician education as well as clinical interests centered around the use of PET-CT for oncology and neurology applications.

After graduating from medical school at the University of Illinois in Chicago, she completed residencies in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. At UAB, she immediately became active as an educator, receiving several teaching awards and co-authoring the third and fourth editions of The Requisites: Nuclear Medicine (the highest selling nuclear medicine textbook internationally) as well as multiple book chapters and papers. She is currently interested in expanding targeted radioisotope therapy with alpha emitters such as Radium-223 as well as with radiolabeled antibodies.

She is currently the Chair of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and was an Oral Board Examiner in Nuclear Medicine for the American Board of Radiology in the past. An active member of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, she now serves as SNMMI Education Committee Chair, Associate Chair for Continuing Education on the Scientific Program Committee, and member of the ACNM/SNMMI Joint Governance Committee, Future Leaders Academy Taskforce and Academic Council.
