Michael V. Yester, Ph.D., DABR, FACR, FAAPM obtained a B.S. in Physics from Christian Brothers College, Memphis, TN, in 1966, followed by a Ph.D., in Physics from Iowa State University, Ames, IA, in 1972.   After a postdoctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, in the Nuclear Chemistry Division, he was an Instructor in the Medical Physics and Radiation Safety Division at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV.

After completing training in Medical Physics, he joined the Radiology Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1976 and had primary clinical responsibility in Nuclear Medicine.   In 2002, he became Director of the Physics and Engineering Division.

Dr. Yester is active in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine, has served on the American College of Radiology Mammography Accreditation Physics Subcommittee and currently serves on the Nuclear Medicine Accreditation Physics subcommittee. He is also on the American Board of Radiology Nuclear Medicine Physics Exam Committee.

His current interests involve dual energy CT, PET, dual energy mammography, and bone densitometry.
