The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery’s Daniel Chu, M.D., has been awarded an American College of Surgeons Traveling Fellowship to Japan for 2020, where he will attend meetings and visit surgical centers for his research and practice. While in Japan, Chu will write about his experiences in the ACS Bulletin.

“I am looking forward to sharing research ideas, developing partnerships and learning about surgical culture in Japan,” Chu said. “This opportunity will be very special, and I aim to represent the ACS and UAB Surgery well.”

The purpose of this fellowship is to encourage international exchange of information concerning surgical science, practice, and education and to establish professional and academic collaborations and friendships.

As Chu travels to Japan, another traveling fellow from Japan will visit North America.

Last year, the Division of Transplantation’s Jayme Locke, M.D., was also awarded this traveling fellowship, which she used to visit Australia and New Zealand.
