Dr. WeiDivision of Cardiothoracic Surgery Associate Professor Benjamin Wei, M.D., has been selected for membership in the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS). Wei also serves as the program director of the UAB Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency.

In order to be chosen for membership, aspiring members must be nominated by active, honorary or senior members of the association to even complete the application process and be evaluated by the Membership Committee. Wei is honored to have made the roster of incoming spring members.

“This organization is built on excellency in thoracic surgery, so it is an honor to be considered a leader in the field of cardiothoracic surgery,” said Wei. “I look forward to representing the division as well as the Department of Surgery on this national level.”

Wei’s membership entails full participation in the affairs of the AATS, including attendance at the Annual Executive Session and voting on issues brought before the Association. He will be officially inducted at the 101th Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually from Apr. 30 to May 2.

Founded in 1917, the AATS, along with its philanthropic arm, the AATS Foundation, has sought to advance the field of cardiothoracic surgery. It is an international organization whose members have a proven record of distinction within the specialty and have made significant contributions to the care and treatment of cardiothoracic disease throughout the world.
