Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery Professor and Vice Chair of Perioperative Services Melanie Morris, M.D., FACS, FASCRS, was elected to the Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine (HSOM) Faculty Council, effective January 2022.

Morris will serve a three-year term and have the possibility of a three-year renewal.

The HSOM Faculty Council reviews and evaluates individual faculty members proposed for appointment, promotion and/or tenure award, making recommendations to the dean as appropriate. The council also serves as the highest advisory committee to the dean and is the most senior and representative administrative body of the departments.

Morris will be in tune with the HSOM annual promotion/tenure review cycle and will be key, alongside others on the council, in maintaining the high-quality faculty candidates that UAB is known for.

“I look forward to supporting the mission of the council and ensuring that we keep our high-performing, compassionate, motivated, and curious faculty that support the mission of the UAB Heersink School of Medicine,” said Morris.
