Dr. Scarinci is a Professor in the Division of Preventive Medicine. She has extensive research and clinical experience with underserved populations, particularly with regard to development, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based, culturally relevant interventions promoting behavior change among underserved populations with a primary focus in cancer prevention and control among African Americans and Latinos. Her training, background, and expertise are in Community-Based Participatory Research. She also has extensive experience in the evaluation of complex multi-center programs in partnership with underserved communities. She is the co-leader for the UAB Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Center Training Core with a primary goal of training of students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty in health disparities research. She also co-leads a number of other NIH-funded training programs focusing on development of future researchers in health disparities, particularly cancer. Dr. Scarinci is the PI on six large studies focusing on cancer disparities, and most of them include a training component.
