Dr. Fouad is Professor of Medicine and Director of the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine and Senior Scientist in the UAB Diabetes Research and Training Center, the Clinical Nutrition Research Center, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Center for Aging. She has considerable administrative experience, serving as founding Director of the UAB-sponsored Minority Health & Health Disparities Research Center (MHRC), a University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Center. In these capacities, she has relevant liaison functions with UAB’s central administration. She also serves as PI of the current National Institute for Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD)-funded UAB P60 COE. She chairs and is a member of several scientific advisory boards of NIMHD-funded P20 and P60 COEs and serves on the NIMHD Advisory Council. Dr. Fouad, who has established much of the infrastructure that is the foundation of this Administrative Core, is ideally suited to lead the Mid-South TCC and to promote its mission regionally and nationally. Dr. Fouad serves as PI on numerous federally funded projects and Co-PI on additional grants, most with the theme of improving health and preventing disease in minorities. Furthermore, Dr. Fouad has established strong relationships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) throughout the Southeast. She was the PI of the ARRA project GO-ing Forward to investigate the social determinants of obesity. She was the PI for the CDC-funded Racial and Ethnic Approaches across the US (REACH US) Mid-South Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities (CEED), and currently is the co-PI on the NIMHD-funded REACH UP & OUT: Eliminating Breast and Cervical Cancer Disparities, the NIA-funded Deep South Resource Center for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR), the NIDDK-funded UAB Diabetes Research Center (DRC), the NCI funded Deep South Network for Cancer Control, and the NCI-funded U54 Partnership Morehouse School of Medicine/Tuskegee University/UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Fouad serves as the Co-PI for the recently funded JSU P20 COE and chairs the Advisory Board of the LSU/Dillard P20 COE. |
