Classé served in the U.S. Marine Corps before earning his legal degree in 1977 and his doctor of optometry degree from UAB in 1978.
Theiss joined the UAB faculty in 1995 and was named director of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013.
Chow was elected to membership in the National Academy of Sciences as a foreign associate in 2012.

Luke joined UAB in 1979 as director of the division and of the Nephrology Research and Training Center.
Andreoli was the founding director of the UAB Division of Nephrology in 1970 and established the Nephrology Research and Training Center.
