The mission of the UAB Nathan Shock Center for Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging (UAB NSC) is to provide services, resources, consultation, and training for investigators performing research on the basic biology of aging.

As part of its mission the UAB NSC offers pilot/feasibility grants in the fields of aging research awarded four times a year on a competitive basis. Awards are available for research focused on the interplay of aging, comparative biology, and energetics, and are for one year. Budgets are developed in consultation with the Core leaders and/or co-leaders. A second year of funding is possible through a competitive renewal process. These pilot grants are designed to provide data that will enable grantees to submit competitive applications for extramural funding. Read more about the grants and learn how to apply.
