The mission of the UAB Nathan Shock Center for Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging (UAB NSC) is to provide services, resources, consultation, and training for investigators performing research on the basic biology of aging.

As part of its mission the UAB NSC offers pilot/feasibility grants awarded annually on a competitive basis to scientists new to the field of aging research. Awards of up to $25,000 are available for research focused on the interplay of aging, comparative biology, and energetics. These awards consist of a combination of funding and subsidies for services offered by UAB NSC Cores. Awards are for one year and are designed to provide data that will enable grantees to submit competitive applications for extramural funding. Read more about the grants and learn how to apply.
