The UAB Center for Interprofessional Education and Simulation (CIPES) bestows Scholar status upon three School of Health Professions faculty members.

Tosi Gilford, M.D., PA-C (pictured right, on right), interim director, Physician Assistant Studies program; and Kelley Swatzell, DrPH, MPH (pictured lower left, on left), associate professor, Physician Assistant Studies program, were recently selected for the Scholar honor based on the outstanding quality of their work.

CIPES is an interprofessional community of faculty and staff members who are committed to bringing together students and other learners from multiple schools across campus. Together, with faculty and staff from the UAB Health System, they form a cohesive and integrated system of interprofessional education and training.

Kelley Swatzell with studentBertrand, Gilford, and Swatzell have been instrumental in promoting use of simulation and interprofessional education for students in the UAB Physician Assistant Studies program.

Peter Anderson, DVM, Ph.D., interim chair, Department of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences, and professor, Pathology, was also named a UAB CIPES Scholar. Anderson, was chosen because of his role in using simulation in the medical student educational activities that he directs in his role as director of Pathology Undergraduate Medical Education.
