Creating a Culture of Sustainability –
Sustainable Green Building Design and Construction

Nine engineering students and faculty spent more than three weeks studying sustainable green building design and instruction in Egypt and the United Kingdom.

About the Program

The UAB International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) is a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) received by Fouad H. Fouad, Ph.D., professor and chair of the UAB Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering . The award supports a team of UAB students , led by UAB faculty in collaboration with a team of Egyptian scientists led by Khalid El Zahaby, Ph.D., chairman, Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) in Cairo, Egypt. The project will support the undergraduate and graduate students from UAB in carrying research projects on sustainable green building design and construction in coordination and with mentorship from the engineers and scientists at the HBRC.
