Service to the Community

10421483 1294751243884584 2786795251272958435 nIt's that time of year again! Come out to the UAB Leadership and Service Council's  Into the Streets Day of Service. This is a student-led day of service during which over 600+ of UAB’s students, faculty, and staff participate in multiple community service projects throughout the Birmingham area.

The event will take place Saturday, March 5 at 8 a.m. in the UAB Campus Recreation Center. The volunteering projects will conclude at noon, then students will return to campus for lunch. Participants should come prepared to work hard, which includes some cleaning and painting. Students should wear clothes they do not mind getting dirty. Wearing closed-toe shoes is always a plus, too.

Into the Streets is a student-led day of service that inspires the UAB student body to participate in multiple community service projects around the Birmingham area. Students are allocated into groups, and then sent to different service sites designated as areas of need by UAB and other nonprofit organizations. Projects include interaction with the elderly, tutoring children for literacy, math, and science, home repairs and builds, neighborhood clean-ups, assisting at the zoo, and completing yard work, among other things. Participation in this day of organized projects leads to many students continuing their service commitment on a regular basis to help others and help our community become stronger.
