Fall Family Weekend returns Oct. 2–4, giving Blazer families the opportunity to experience campus, connect with the UAB community and make memories together. From campus traditions and family-friendly activities to Birmingham excursions and UAB football, there’s something for everyone throughout the weekend.


Friday, October 2


➤ Family Weekend Check-In | Campus Green | 4–7 p.m.
Meet with UAB staff and pick up your Family Weekend materials.

➤ UAB Blazer Mixer & Recstravaganza | Campus Green, UAB Recreation Center & Hill Student Center | 4–7 p.m.
Kick off Family Weekend with campus partners, yard games, music, food trucks and more. Families can also join University Recreation for Recstravaganza, featuring full-size Mario Kart racing, dance and fitness demos, a climbing competition, Blazer Cake Walk and the traditional Rubber Ducky Race. This year’s festivities also include the first-ever Canstruction® canned CanArt® food structures contest, with canned goods later donated to Blazer Kitchen and a local food bank.

➤ Legacy Pinning Ceremony | Alumni House | 6 p.m.
UAB alumni families are invited to join the National Alumni Society for light refreshments and a special ceremony recognizing legacy families. Parents will have the opportunity to pin their UAB student with a special Legacy lapel pin.

➤ UAB Men’s Soccer vs. Tulsa | PNC Field | 7 p.m.
Cheer on the Blazers as UAB Men’s Soccer takes on Tulsa. Tickets are $6 for family members; UAB students attend free.

➤ Friday Night Live Movie | McMahon Courtyard | 7 p.m.
Wrap up the first night with a special Family Weekend edition of Friday Night Live, hosted by the Blazer Engagement Council and Student Housing. Families can enjoy a screening of Minions & Monsters with popcorn, beverages, sweet treats and family-friendly fun.


Saturday, October 3


➤ Family Weekend Check-In | Hill Student Center | 7:30–10 a.m.
Families who were unable to pick up their registration package Friday can pick up their materials Saturday morning.

➤ Sunrise Yoga | Hill Student Center Amphitheater | 8 a.m.
Start the day with a free yoga session. RSVP required.

➤ Honors College Coffee & Connections | Honors Building | 9–10 a.m.
Enjoy coffee and snacks while connecting with Honors College faculty and staff. RSVP required.

➤ Genealogy Session | Sterne Library | 9:30 a.m.
Explore your family history during this interactive genealogy session led by Dana Hettich, associate professor, reference librarian and liaison to Social Sciences. The session is free for registered Family Weekend participants and their students. RSVP required.

➤ UAB National Solar Tour | Solar House | 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Explore the UAB Solar House and learn more about sustainable practices and the work of local environmental stewards. The event will feature food, music, vendors and more. Free admission; RSVP required.

Birmingham Excursions

Families can explore Birmingham through special Family Weekend rates at several local attractions. Choose your adventure during registration, including:

  • Vulcan Museum and Park — $7 per person

  • 16th Street Baptist Church — $10 per person

  • Sloss Furnaces — $5 per person

  • Birmingham Zoo — $17 per person

  • McWane Science Center — $14 per person

  • Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum — $19 per person

Additional tickets may be purchased during registration.

➤ UAB Family Football Tailgate | Protective Life Stadium, Blazer Village | 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Get ready for game day with tailgate games, food, music and fun before the Blazers take on Samford University. Families can meet representatives from across campus, experience Blazer Walk and enjoy the Fan Zone, featuring inflatable games, temporary tattoos, face painting, photo opportunities and more.

➤ UAB Football vs. Samford | Protective Life Stadium | 2:30 p.m.
Cheer on the Blazers as they take on Samford. Family member tickets are included with Family Weekend registration. UAB students can sit in the student section for free; students who would like to sit with their families must purchase an additional $11 ticket.

➤ 2026 Freshmen Theatre Showcase | Sirote Theatre, Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center | 7 p.m.
Enjoy an evening of performances featuring UAB’s freshman and transfer Theatre and Musical Theatre majors. Free admission; RSVP required.


Sunday, October 4


➤ Sunday Family Brunch | Commons on the Green | 11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Wrap up Family Weekend with a traditional Sunday brunch at UAB’s all-you-can-eat dining facility. Family members are $20; UAB students can use a meal swipe.


Make the Most of Family Weekend

Registered parents and family members can also take advantage of UAB Recreation throughout the weekend. Families can access the Rec Oct. 2–4 and participate in available Group Fitness classes. Space in classes is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
