Explore UAB

Student Experience

by Dylan Fisher

Ready to explore what UAB’s Campus Recreation Center (URec) has to offer? Join URec for Recstravaganza from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26. At this annual event students can find information about the variety of fitness programs URec offers all semester long.

Grab a punch card at the door and start exploring! Here are 5 things attendees don’t want to miss at Recstravaganza. The first 100 participants who complete their punch card will win a free event t-shirt.

  1. Take a URec fitness class
See what exciting classes URec offers throughout the year like group fitness dance, kickboxing, swimming, and much more. Demo classes will be available to all participants. Have a question? No worries, instructors will be on site.
  2. Real Life Mario Kart returns!
Come dressed as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, or any favorite MarioKart character and race the track! This popular edition from last year is making its great return.
  3. Learn about lifeguard certification
Complete a certification course at URec and learn how to recognize, prevent, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Learn more about the different types of certifications and the prerequisites for each course here.
  4. Rubber Duck Race
Cheer for a favorite student organization as they compete in the Rubber Duck Race at URec’s Leisure River. Interested teams can click here to learn more about signing up.
  5. Golden Route
Conquer the rock climbing wall and complete the great UAB tradition of finishing the Golden Route. This route is a symbol of resilience, strength, honor, diversity, scholarship, and service for all UAB students.

Take the stress away from midterms, grab a few friends, and go to Recstravaganza!
