The UAB Division of Student Affairs is introducing RealResponse, an anonymous communication platform designed to make it easier for students to report concerns, ask questions, and connect with support resources in a safe and accessible way.

The platform allows students to communicate directly with university staff through text messaging. RealResponse anonymizes the phone number of anyone sending information keeping identities and associated data protected. The technology is intended to reduce barriers that may prevent students from seeking help.

"Students are more likely to reach out when communication feels accessible, immediate, and safe,” said Shawra Rainer, UAB’s director of Community Standards & Student Accountability. “RealResponse provides another pathway for students to ask for help, share concerns, and connect with resources – especially during moments when speaking face-to-face may be difficult.”

How RealResponse Works

Students can submit anonymous messages by texting:

The platform protects student anonymity while allowing university staff to review messages and provide responses when appropriate.

Students may use RealResponse to:

• Share concerns about concerning behaviors
• Hazing incidents
• Title IX issues
• Code of Conduct violations

Easy Access Through QR Code

To make participation even easier, students can scan the QR code available on the Student Affairs website and promotional materials across campus. Scanning the code will open a text message directly to the RealResponse number.
