UAB has received additional funding from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF-III) under the American Rescue Plan Act to offer emergency grants to eligible students. These grants may be used for any emergency-cost component of your cost of attendance that arose due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or childcare.

Examples include but are not limited to:

  • You had trouble finding employment to help with living expenses while attending school
  • You had to withdraw from your classes and still owe charges on your student account
  • Your internet/WiFi at home was insufficient and you were forced to upgrade your plan
  • With all your classes being virtual this past year, you had to buy a new laptop
  • You incurred additional medical or mental health expenses
  • Your child’s daycare closed resulting in higher costs for a change in childcare

Eligibility

  • Enrolled at UAB Fall 2020, Spring 2021 or Summer 2021 (excluding those who have graduated)
  • Graduate and undergraduate students
  • Both US and non-US citizens
  • No FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) required

Priority funding will be given to students who are Pell Grant-eligible or those with exceptional need. Amounts may vary based on need and the availability of funds. UAB will continue to offer HEERF-III grants until funds have been exhausted.
