Tornado Relief - Food and Toiletries Drive through Feb. 6th

Photo of student volunteersIt's hard to know where to start when it comes to giving a helping hand after a natural disaster. The tornadoes that tore through our region on January 23, 2012 have affected our UAB community, and the Student Alumni Society (SAS) in partnership with United Way and the Undergraduate Student Government Association have created an opportunity for you to step in.

It's the UAB Cares Necessities & Food Drive, and it's simple - bring any of the following items to the UAB National Alumni Society House (across from Sterne Library) by February 6th:

Necessities Food
soap instant potatoes
shaving cream canned vegetables
razors canned soup
deodorant fruit
laundry detergent boxed cereals
toothpaste and toothbrushes
toilet tissue
combs

Deliver to UAB National Alumni Society House Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-5:30 PM by Feb. 6th.
You can also drop items off in various bins placed around campus.

The first distribution of goods was delivered Friday, Jan. 27 to the Northpark Baptist Church, located just off of Deerfoot Parkway in Trussville. It was an area hit hard by the storm with many homes destroyed in the Pilgrim’s Rest and Steeple Chase subdivisions.

Mr. UAB quote "There are members of the UAB student body and staff that have been impacted and we just want to do something to let them know that students at UAB care and want to help"

The SAS is the largest student organization on campus with more than 600 students involved. They coordinate several community service projects each year as a way to give back to the community and show support for various community projects. Click the button below to learn about joining.
