Multicultural & Diversity Programs

Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs serves the UAB Community, especially our students, by developing programs and resources that promote multicultural and social justice awareness, education and appreciation. Additionally, we support the growth of students' attitudes, ideas, and behaviors as they relate to multicultural issues and personal and social identities.

Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs focuses on the six areas of Cultural Engagement, Student Leadership, Dialogue and Critical Thought, Mentorship Programs, LGBTQ Programs, and Diversity Training, each creates opportunities for student involvement and education, advocacy, and awareness.

UAB Inclusive Campus Statement

I will strive to build an inclusive community at UAB. I believe that every student, faculty and staff member has the right to be treated with dignity, respect and self-worth. I will work to ensure that my behavior and my actions do not harass or make fun of anyone due to their race, gender, culture, faith, class, sexual orientation, disability, or any other difference. Although I know I am not perfect and I will make mistakes, I believe that it is my responsibility to act in a manner free of bias, exclusion and discrimination. I believe I have the power to build an inclusive UAB.

International Bazaar

IntBazaar flyer2015  Since 2001, the UAB International Bazaar has been an extensive undertaking initially organized by International Student Services and the Office of Student Life.  The Office of Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs and its student group, the UAB Multicultural Council (formerly InterCulture) now serve hosts to the event as a part of UAB Community Week.
The programs partner with a variety of individual and group participants in order to showcase the cultural diversity inherent not only to the university, but also to the greater Birmingham community, something of which we all are immensely proud. To honor the sense of multiculturalism we cherish, the office and its constituents arrange displays and performances by an eclectic group of Birmingham locals, with a focus on international representation. By providing such a comprehensive exhibition, in the style of a traditional bazaar, where the community atmosphere effectively transcends cultural boundaries, we aim to engage all guests, participants, and organizers in a space where cultural differences are realized as a source of strength, and where cultural variety is met with respect and enthusiasm. We hope you enjoy celebrating this multicultural experience, during our 14th annual International Bazaar, hosted by Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham!
