Black Student Awareness Committee

Black Student Awareness Committee

Through educational events and programs, the Black Student Awareness Committee (BSAC) strives to increase the awareness of issues surrounding the Black community on our campus, within the city of Birmingham, and across the nation. BSAC encourages celebration of Black heritage, celebrates the accomplishments of Black people on and around the campus, and offers insight into the future of Black America.

BSAC also emphasizes the promotion and support of African-American student organizations at the University as well as the development of outstanding Black student leaders.

The Black Student Awareness Committee encourages and welcomes students to get involved and make a difference through education, empowerment and understanding. UAB students have an opportunity to become a general body member and participate on the multiple committees that implement the various programs and community service events.

BSAC coordinates events such as Umoja New Student Welcome, Back to School BBQ, Fashion Week, BSPOT, Kwanzaa, Martin Luther King Jr. Week, Black History Month events, and more. The committee also produces the popular Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Step Show, an exciting annual competition among traditionally Black fraternities and sororities.
