What is a BlazerID?

Your BlazerID is the equivalent of a username for UAB's computer systems. It's what you'll use to log in for email, BlazerNET, Canvas, and other online services. It will also be your UAB email address (the part that comes before @uab.edu).

Why do I need one if I'm not a UAB student yet?

You will use your BlazerID to log into MyUAB, to sign up for a campus tour, to apply for admission, to check your status for financial aid, and to receive all official correspondence from UAB. Unlike other systems where you are forced to create and remember a new ID once you become a student, this one stays with you instead.

What are the requirements in choosing a BlazerID?

  • Your BlazerID must be between 3-8 characters long (minimum: 3; maximum: 8).
  • It must begin with a letter.
  • Any letters it contains must be lowercase.
  • It cannot match the BlazerID of any other UAB student, faculty, or staff member (so the first one you think of may not be available).

Can I change my BlazerID later?

No, so it is important you pick something that you will want to use throughout your time at UAB. Before you select your BlazerID, ask yourself: "Would I be comfortable having teachers receive an email from me with this address?" "Would I be comfortable using this email address on a resumé?"
