1. Why is UAB changing from the current catalog to the new online catalog?
UAB students have requested an easy-to-use online catalog with information presented in a clear and concise fashion. Our current catalog system makes it difficult for our students to locate information easily and quickly. We are creating the new online undergraduate catalog in efforts to meet our students’ demands as well as synchronize the information in the published undergraduate catalog with Banner Catalog and Schedule.

2. Will UAB also be placing the other course catalogs online?
We’re currently evaluating the needs of the other catalogs, but we anticipate one or more to be in the new online format in the future.

3. Will the process for making changes to the catalog be the same for the online catalog?
No, the process for making catalog changes will be much easier with the new online catalog software. All changes will be made in one document for publication and sent through an automated workflow for approval and final publication into the online undergraduate catalog. The document changes will be much easier to read and understand as they move through the catalog process.

4. Will there be training for users of the new online catalog?
Yes, training will be in late January or early February for all catalog authors and approvers. The dates, times, and locations will be published on this website as soon as they are scheduled.

5. Will course changes still be made during the annual undergraduate catalog editing process?
No, changes to course information will be maintained and updated through a separate process. These edits will flow into Banner, and course information for the online catalog will be pulled directly from Banner.

6. When will the online catalog be available for students to view?
The 2011-2012 Undergraduate Catalog published in the new online catalog software will be available on October 31, 2011, for students to use. The 2012-2013 Undergraduate Catalog will be available for students in May prior to New Student Orientation Sessions for fall.
