Libraries are where the knowledge lives.

Don’t you love the smell of shelf after shelf of books just bursting to share their wisdom with you? Sorry—we do, and we get kind of excited about it. UAB has more than a million items between our two libraries—books both fiction and nonfiction, of course, but also journals, CDs and videos, and an ever-growing collection of online offerings and e-books.

Mervyn H. Sterne Library houses resources for the arts and humanities, business, education, engineering, natural science and mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences—as well as fiction books, magazines, and Starbucks coffee and snacks. (Don’t try to combine the books and the Starbucks—folks get mad.)

Lister Hill Library of the Health Sciences is the largest biomedical library in Alabama and one of the largest in the Southeast. It offers books, online resources, and plenty of reference and educational services and opportunities for one-on-one instruction. It's also home to the mysterious and super-cool "Edge of Chaos" (stop by the 4th floor to check it out).
