9 things to know about student parking

This year, UAB Transportation introduced new zone options for the fall and spring semesters to reduce the time spent searching for a parking space. With the fall semester just around the corner, parking permits are limited and selling fast. Students should apply for a permit on July 15 to ensure their desired zone is still available, as exchanges may not be possible.

 


Here are nine things you should know about student parking at UAB:

  1. Permits can be purchased on the UAB Transportation website.
  2. To purchase a UAB parking permit, you must first be admitted to UAB and have created a Blazer ID.
  3. Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. You will only be able to choose from the options still available when you attempt to purchase a permit. If you do not see an option listed, no permits are available for that option at that time.
  4. Permit Options
    • Students living in UAB Housing: UAB Transportation will release additional permits for Zone A and Zone 7 at 12:01 a.m. on July 15. These permits are only available to UAB Housing students.
    • Students not living in UAB Housing: Please do not wait until school begins to purchase your parking permit. If you order your permit after August 15, you must come to the UAB Transportation Office, 608 8th Street South, to obtain a temporary permit while awaiting your permanent permit to arrive.
  5. Charges for permits are applied to your student account.
  6. Permits are mailed to the address provided when you purchase the permit.
  7. If you are parking in a UAB parking facility, you must have a valid permit displayed. Those not displaying a valid permit on the first day of classes, August 26, will be subject to citations and/or towing.
  8. Driving to campus is not the only option for getting to UAB. You should consider alternative modes of transportation, like biking or taking the bus, to save time and avoid searching for a parking spot.
