UAB Leadership Engagement

Clarus Consulting Group was hired to engage UAB stakeholders in a campus-wide conversation to identify opportunities for the next QEP topic. In Phase I, Clarus met with UAB leadership, including Deans, faculty, and students to brainstorm stakeholder groups and methods for engaging them.

Clarus conducted interviews and focus groups with key UAB faculty, administration, and students to discuss UAB’s current QEP and to brainstorm ways of designing the stakeholder engagement component to identify UAB’s next QEP. Key UAB stakeholder groups that were identified include faculty, staff/administration, and students. The leaders recommended engaging campus stakeholders school by school using the following methods:

  • Existing Meetings—increase participation by engaging groups during pre-existing meeting times
  • Facilitated Discussions—host small focus groups or interdisciplinary breakout groups to encourage collaboration and discussion about the QEP across campus
  • Online—offer opportunities for stakeholders to provide feedback at any time during the process
  • Informal Engagements—engage parties in brief, informal conversations by setting up a lobby table or reaching out to groups at dining facilities across campus

Stakeholder Engagement Committee

Based on recommendation by the Provost and Vice Provost for Student and Faculty Success, Clarus Consulting Group assembled a Stakeholder Engagement Committee to aid in designing the engagement methods for identifying UAB’s next QEP topic using the strategies identified by UAB leadership. Members were selected by the Provost and Vice Provost for Student and Faculty Success and were asked to attend committee meetings to strategize methods for reaching UAB’s key stakeholders.

“The Stakeholder Engagement Committee will advise Clarus Consulting Group on the development and implementation of the QEP Focus Identification process, which will take place from September 2012 through March 2013. The Committee will provide feedback on the messaging for various stakeholder groups, will brainstorm new methods for gathering stakeholder input, and will support Clarus by encouraging the UAB community to participate in the identification of the new QEP topic. Through regular communication methods including in person meetings, conference calls, and emails, the Stakeholder Engagement Committee will provide insights on how best to communicate about the QEP and design methods for successfully engaging the UAB campus community.”
