 Louise Chow, Ph.D., a UAB professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics,
was elected a member of the NationalAcademy of Science for her excellence as one of today’s pre-eminent leaders in
the study of the human papillomavirus, the virus responsible for cervical
cancer.

“UAB biotech startup wins $22,000 in Alabama Launchpad competition”

Our own BMG student, Michael Heaven, brought home $22,000 worth of funding for his company this week from the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama in a proof of concept competition Tuesday. Michael co-founded Proteomic Profiling Technologies with Archie Cobbs. He said the idea behind the company came to him during his biochemistry Ph.D. program at UAB.  Mike’s mentor is Dr. Michael Brenner in the Department of Neurobiology.
