September is National Preparedness Month, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham is highlighting the need for each individual to have his or her own personal plans in place for coping with emergency situations.

“Federal, state and local governments spend a lot of time on emergency planning, as do we at UAB,” said JVann Martin, director of Emergency Management for the UAB Health System. “But individuals need to have a personal plan for themselves and their families. Our efforts during National Preparedness Month are geared at helping faculty, students and staff access the resources they need to establish their own personal preparedness plans.”

Each week in September will focus on a different topic. Handouts and information on online resources will be available at booths on campus. Social media messaging will reinforce each topic and provide a guide to resources. Follow #ReadyUAB.
