Under the direction of Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk, the opera program at UAB has grown into a nationally award-winning program. Since 2011, UAB Opera has won three top awards in National Opera Association’s opera production competition. Main stage productions with orchestra are balanced with touring shows and opera scenes programs with piano. Recent productions include The Elixir of Love, Dido and Aeneas, The Magic Flute, The Pirates of Penzance, Amahl and the Night Visitors,The Merry Widow, Man of La Mancha, Handel’s Semele, Mozart’s La Finta Semplice, and Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace.
