A movement is underway in the UAB Department of Human Studies
Known for our innovative programs that prepare professionals to serve in a diverse world, we aim to transform lives and optimize human potential. Our outstanding faculty members are not only leaders in their fields but also excellent mentors and educators who inspire others to grow and learn. Our graduates will enhance the health and well-being of generations.
Our department—one of two in the School of Education—engages over 800 students. We offer degree programs at all academic levels and within four areas of study: Community Health and Human Services, Counselor Education, Educational Leadership, and Kinesiology. This department also houses two non-degree service programs, one in Educational Foundations, and one in Educational Psychology and Research.

The Department of Human Studies recently engaged in a deliberate examination of our programs, research, and pedagogy, which resulted in a Strategic Plan. We are identifying new initiatives, approaches, and funding sources to create a more dynamic and innovative department that offers its students and faculty greater opportunities for learning and research.
