Counselor Education students and faculty travel to Italy to study counseling profession.

For a fifth consecutive year, students from UAB’s CEP will travel to Italy to study the Italian counseling profession.  Led by CEP Associate Professor and institute affiliate faculty member Dr. Larry Tyson, students will spend 15 days attending approximately 20 seminars led by American professors, doctoral students, and counseling professionals from Italy and traveling throughout Tuscany. This year, six students will make up the UAB group:  Julia Venable, Bre Carr, Tori Greenhill, Kristen Woods, in addition to Auburn student Asha McAdory and Montevallo student Kristin Amos.  Students, faculty, and family can follow Julia, Bre, Torie, Kristen, and Dr. Tyson’s experiences on each individual’s blog.  Just click on the person’s picture.

Group picture of last years study abroad group in front of old italian building.Last year’s group in front of Casa Cares.Entitled, “A Counselor’s View of Italy, the UAB group will join 25 other master’s and doctoral students from various universities in the southeast.  This year, the following universities will be represented:  Old Dominion University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Governors State University, the University of Montevallo, Auburn University, Northern Kentucky University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Regent University, Louisiana State University, the University of North Texas, the University of Florida, and Virginia Tech University.

The students and faculty will stay at Casa Cares, a retreat center located in Reggello, Italy about 30 miles south of Florence.
