Job Title: Health Coordinator
Job description:  As the Health Coordinator at P.E.E.R., Inc. (Promoting Empowerment and Enrichment Resources), I have the opportunity to work with children, seniors, and families of all different backgrounds and cultures. I teach nutrition, gardening, exercise, and other healthy behaviors. I love the variety and range of responsibilities I have.

How did UAB prepare you for your current position?
UAB actually connected me with my current position via my undergraduate internship.  I was hired on immediately after the end of my internship. The theories and models taught in the classrooms at UAB provided me with the ability to translate my skills into the different areas in which I serve.  My service learning experiences also provided me with the hands on experience I needed to know I could do the job.
What did you enjoy most about the health education program?
I enjoyed my service learning experience the most.  I got to experience real life situations before I had to commit to something, allowing me to explore new ideas and avenues for myself.  I also enjoyed working with the children I had the pleasure of meeting, and the professional that guided me with them!
To what do you attribute your success?
I attribute all of my success to my support network!  Because of the experience, strength, and hope shared by my close friends and family, I was able to push through the many obstacles I faced during my time learning at UAB.  It is imperative to be connected with those that build you up and support the healthy behaviors you want to take part in!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In ten years, I hope to be teaching at the post secondary level or higher; or running a non-profit organization while working towards my doctorate in Public Health or Nursing Education.
