UAB subscribes to CITI training modules for export control online training. These trainings help to assist faculty, staff and students understand the concepts of export controls for varying business activities. For questions, please email us at exportcontrol@uab.edu.
CITI Export Control modules-based instruction ranges from the required modules (Introductory course and general overview) to multiple elective and optional modules. The current modules are listed below:

CITI Online Training Registration and Completion Instructions:
Direct instructions on how to access the CITI Export Control training course modules can be found below. Upon completion of the course, your training activity is logged by the CITI module and registered on the UAB CITI Program account.
- Go to https://www.citiprogram.org/ to the “Register” link on the top right-hand side of the webpage. You will register as a member, because UAB is an affiliated institution with the CITI Program. Access The University of Alabama at Birmingham Courses by first typing "University of Alabama, Birmingham (SSO)". Then, select "Continue to SSO Login/Instructions." or “Continue to Create Your CITI Username/Password”, if you are registering for the first time.
- Go to the “My Learner Tools for University of Alabama, Birmingham” to “View Courses” and to “Add a Course.”
- When you are adding a course, you will see a section entitled “Select Curriculum – University of Alabama, Birmingham.”
- Scroll down this section to “Course Enrollment Questions” and answer the questions. For the purposes of enrolling in this specific course, all your answers should be either “no” or “not at this time” until Question 4.
- Question 4 is “Please make your selection below to receive the CITI US Export Control Compliance course”. Click the radio button in front of the CITI Export Controls and it will take you to the course.
- Once you are in the CITI Export Controls course, you can complete the modules: Introduction to Export Compliance (CITI ID 16800).
- You may also complete additional Export Control modules within the CITI training platform.
Please note that the details of CITI Program training registration processes are maintained by CITI personnel. The exact language may change as well as the numbering of Questions to be selected. Please select the Question number that relates to the Export Control course modules.
