School of Health Professions and School of Engineering have started pilot testing the tool. Rollout to the remaining Schools, College and Library is on schedule.

Many universities in the U.S. recognize the need for electronic systems that support faculty members in managing their professional information, identifying colleagues with specific areas of expertise for consultation, making their research and professional activities visible in order to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations, and facilitating consistent faculty activities reporting. The electronic tool that UAB selected is Symplectic Elements, and the UAB system is called Faculty Profiles.

The UAB Faculty Activities Committee began meeting in the spring with representatives from all schools/college/libraries to provide direction for the implementation of Faculty Profiles and communication with members of the UAB faculty.

Other U.S. institutions adopting this tool include Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, University of Pennsylvania, Duke University and University of Tennessee.
