Application requirements:

  • All applications must be submitted to the UAB Graduate School online via ApplyYourself. Review the Application Process Checklist provided by each GBS theme in its listing in the Graduate Program Directory for program-specific requirements.
  • Each applicant must submit a personal statement/essay. Use this component to tell the admissions committee about yourself, your research experience, the area of research in which you are interested, and anything else you want to discuss. This would also be the place to address any gaps or inconsistencies in your timeline.
  • Each applicant must submit a resume or curriculum vitae.
  • GRE official scores no more than five years old are required of all applicants. TOEFL scores no more than two years old required of international applicants with an iBT TOEFL score of 80, a CBT TOEFL score of 250, or IELTS of 6.5 or higher.
    The GRE and TOEFL Institutional code for UAB is 1856. No department code is required.
  • Official transcripts are required from all post-secondary institutions attended and must be mailed directly from that institution to the UAB Grad School:
