The Department of Health Services Administration includes seven top-ranked programs, as well as a variety of continuing education opportunities for health services executives. Several of the programs are the only one of their kind in the state, first of their kind in the nation, and the MSHA Program is ranked #5 in the nation. Graduates of these programs enjoy high starting salaries and abundant job opportunities.
Morgan places second in honors day

Darius Morgan, a Health Information Management student, won second place in the Eleventh Annual University of Alabama Systems Honors Research Day in Tuscaloosa on March 13, 2012. He was one of nine presenters in his session.
Morgan’s poster was titled, “Are we ready for transitioning to ICD-10 coding in Alabama hospitals?” His mentor was Shannon Houser, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Health Information Management program.
Bridgett Alday, a student in the Health Care Management program, also put on an oral presentation on “VA mental health screening practices.” She was mentored by M. Paige Powell, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Health Care Management program.

Positive Outlook for health care jobs in 2020
The outlook for health care jobs in 2020 is looking good. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases projections on where jobs may be created or lost in the next decade. Several health care jobs where degrees are offered in the School of Health Professions can expect to see an increase in the next decade. more
HSA inks $2.2 million deal to train Saudi Arabia hospital administrators
When the King Fahad Specialist Hospital-Dammam in Saudia Arabia decided to build a new 1,500-bed hospital, they realized they needed someone to train their hospital administrators. The hospital decided to ask UAB’s top-ranked Department of Health Services Administration to teach their 35 physicians/administrators.more
The Department of Health Service Administration offers two undergraduate programs, three masters programs, and two doctoral programs. All of these programs are designed to meet the needs of different aspects of the health care industry.
