Focusing on Diversity

The Tinsley Harrison Internal Medicine Residency Program is committed to recruiting the best and brightest residents of diverse ethnic, racial, gender, sexual orientation, and religious backgrounds.  We believe that the unique qualities of each resident are integral to the strength of our program and facilitate our efforts to cultivate a physician workforce that mirrors the diverse population that we serve.  By fostering an environment that welcomes diversity along with inclusion, we cultivate physicians who practice high quality, individualized medicine interweaved with cultural responsiveness.  As Max de Pree once stated, “We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity.  We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.”

We are excited about the initiatives within the internal medicine residency program as well the UAB Medicine community.  We welcome you to continue discovering how we are focusing on diversity.
