The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Neurosurgery PGY3 Resident Andrew Hale, M.D., Ph.D., was recently awarded 2023 Top Cerebrovascular Paper of the Year at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Annual Meeting in Washington D.C. on Monday, Sept. 11, 2023.
 
Hale served as first author on this paper, with Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Jesse Jones, M.D., serving as senior author.
 
Hale’s paper, “Multinational Genome-Wide Association Study and Functional Genomics Analysis Implicates Decreased SIRT3 Expression Underlying Intracranial Aneurysm Risk,” explores a multinational genome-wide association study of individuals from the United Kingdom, Finland and Japan with the goal of identifying germline-genetic risk factors for intracranial aneurysm.
