The award was established to honor the memory of Dr. Harriet Dustan, an outstanding clinician and investigator who was a tireless worker on behalf of the Council on Hypertension and the American Heart Association for more than 50 years.  Dustan was the first editor-in-chief of the journal Hypertension and was director of the Cardiovascular Research and Training Center at the School of Medicine from 1977 to 1987.

The award will be presented to Pollock at the Hypertension Scientific Sessions in September, where she has been asked to present a 30-minute lecture on a topic of her choice.

Pollock, along with her husband David Pollock, Ph.D., was recruited to UAB in 2014 to create and lead the new section of Translational Cardio-Renal Research within the Division of Nephrology.

In her time at UAB, Pollock has received several honors and awards, including the 2015 Bodil M. Schmidt‐Nielsen Distinguished Mentor and Scientist Award from the American Physiological Society for her outstanding contributions in both research and mentoring, as well as the 2016 School of Medicine Dean’s Excellence Award for Mentoring.
