Women in Medicine reception, lecture planned for Oct. 8

The UAB School of Medicine and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion is celebrating the accomplishments of our women faculty who were promoted to the rank of professor during the last promotion cycle.

Five women were promoted to the rank of professor in 2015.  They are: Virginia Bradley, Ph.D., Department of Medicine; Yufeng Li, Ph.D., Department of Medicine; Avi Madan-Swain, Ph.D., Department of Pediatrics; Salpy Pamboukian, M.D., Department of Medicine; and Anne Theibert, Ph.D., Department of Neurobiology. 

A reception and lecture in their honor will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, 1200 10th Avenue South.

Guest Lecturer will be Gail Cassell, Ph.D., senior lecturer in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at the Harvard School of Medicine and senior scientist in the Division of Global Health and Equity at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Her lecture is titled: “Career Development in Biomedical Research:  External vs. Internal Challenges and Opportunities.”
