“The Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation has a profound commitment to children’s health and believes that children in Alabama and beyond should have access to the crucial eye care they need and deserve,” stated Michelle McIntyre, Executive Director at Quarterbacking Children’s Health Foundation, underscoring the foundation’s dedication to supporting organizations addressing the medical needs of Alabama children.

The impact of this collaboration goes beyond the ceremonial unveiling—it has catalyzed remarkable growth at UAB Callahan Eye. Over the years, the partnership has played a pivotal role in expanding the pediatric care team from a modest two providers to an impressive six. This expansion translates into an annual capacity to serve over 15,000 pediatric patients, ensuring that children in need receive the specialized attention and care they deserve.

In an interview with Michelle McIntyre, she delved into the motivations behind the partnership. “Because vision is such an important aspect of our health, having specialized care to address vision care improves children’s learning potential as early as possible,” noted McIntyre.

The newly unveiled Kids Zone, a dedicated pediatric waiting room, is a manifestation of the partnership’s commitment to holistic care. Thoughtfully designed by Grace Bertram, a standout feature of the event was the introduction of a wall mural displayed in the Suite 410 Kids Zone. Brian Samuels, Chair of the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, spoke of the immense impact on the future of pediatric eye care. “The front-line work and the research we are doing, particularly in the pediatric division, would not be possible without this support, and we are proud to have a dedicated space to show our appreciation,” said Samuels.

Rett Grover, CEO of UAB Callahan Eye, acknowledged the partnership’s transformative effects on the clinic’s capabilities and reach. Rob Tauscher, UAB Callahan Eye’s newest pediatric ophthalmologist, shared insights into the clinic’s dedication to delivering excellence in patient care. Bertram Young, Director of Development within the UAB Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, expressed profound gratitude for the support that has propelled this project to fruition.
