Application InformationUAB graduates are leaders in Pediatrics. The environment here fosters independent thinking, problem solving, and team work while fostering and encouraging resident goals and ideals. It is because of this that many Pediatric Department Chairs, Residency Program Directors, Division Directors, biomedical researchers, NIH Study Section Chairs, journal Editors, and a former President of the American Academy of Pediatrics, in addition to the countless community leaders all received their Pediatrics training at UAB.
Since its initial formation in 1937, the UAB Pediatric Residency Training program has trained hundreds of pediatricians who now care for the children of the state of Alabama as well as all over the US and world. 20 Categorical Pediatrics resident positions are offered for the upcoming 2013-14 Match.
Since 1993, UAB has also offered combined training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds), with 4 residents per year being accepted into the Med-Peds program for the upcoming match. Both programs are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
UAB began its Combined Medical Genetics and Pediatrics residency in 2007.
We also offer combined training in Child Neurology and Pediatrics, and will be offering 1 resident in the 2013-14 Match.
The UAB Pediatrics and Med-Peds Residency Programs have welcomed medical students from more than 30 states and several foreign countries.
In the last 10 years, exactly 50% of UAB graduates have entered general pediatric settings while 50% have entered subspecialty practice.
